On days like this I like to sleep in Ms Akira's cage where it is cool and private! Actually we are all under cover. We hear from the Chans that England is still steeped in snow. Although we don't want snow, we are all looking forward to cooler months.

Huh? What did you say san? March is the hottest month in the year? How can anything be hotter than this?

Really?

We are really thankful for many fings. First we thank san fur the Butterflier Cat Dancer, our now favourite toy. Then we fank san fur our new water fountain which came all the way from the US of A. I have not drunk from it but this morning san saw Megat drinking from under the falling water! Although Ms Akira has continued to re-groom her self again, san finks it is good that Ms Akira is her lap cat (cos we boys dun do that...no siree). san will be going back to the doctor to see if there is nother cause like hormones!

Furry impawtantly, san is thankful that our good friend cat_aunty is okay and that Hat is doing furry well. His paw is healing nicely.

All in all, we are having a furry thankful Monday :))

Sunny Sunday

Sunday morning began softly. san sat with me for some alone-time. I like being here in the mornings to see the birdies from the flat across. Then she showed me the new toy she bought for us. It was a pink butterfly.
It flew like the real thing...at least san told me so. I have never seen a butterfly outside , even at my window. But this was quite fun. san told me my bruffers also liked it...

Here Toro was trying to hynotise it. It didn't work very well.
So he pounced on it and caught it. He did better that time!
Tanaka also did very well (although I hate to say it!)

Here Tanaka was also trying to hynotise it. I think boys are not very smart! But the buterfly was getting very ragged already..hehe

Bujang was very good at playing catching the butterfly. He caught it very neatly.

The butterfly as you can see has lost some of its wings. san tried to look for the pieces but she could not find any. I told her its in our stomachs! But we didn't mind. san has two more and I think we would be having a 'flying' time these few weeks.

I bought these butterflies from the same company http://www.mythreecats.com/ that sent me the package for the steel water fountain. They are called Butterflier Dancer Cat Toy :) I also managed to get my water fountain the second time round after many calls to the post office! But I had to change the motor for one that we can use. It was a matter of voltage. I could use a converter but it was unstable. I will put up some pics of that quite magificent water fountain but only Ms Akira and Toro had drunk from it :) The others were too afraid of the falling water :)

Toro looking out of the window at some birds in cages in the opposite flat. There is a whole row of singing birds. The amigos sit here or at least at the cat seat in the bedroom and look out for long stretches. Of cos also to sleep....:)

No san - no dragons here. Its safe. No dragons are coming to eat us. Its supposedd to be good luck you say? Hmmm...lets see....

san came home yesterday and told us about the magnificent dragon she saw in Malacca. She said it came out of nowhere and flew over everyone's head. We don't believe her eventhough she has some pics to show. But it was more beleiveable when she said she took a trishaw ride to the hotel after she saw the dragon. THAT we believe as here she is with her old friend from secondary school :)

san said it was a short ride but it was fun and they didn't have to walk back to the hotel which made it all the more enjoyable.

Ok. It does look magnificent. I give you that san.
It does look like it was flying. You can hardly see the cables from here.
But as I know there are no dragons outside my door, I think a good night's sleep is in order.

Tanaka's How-To #07

Its THAT time again. san told me that I should be able to do this by myself but I told her that I have to figure out the sequence properly and therefore I need a secretary...and one with thumbs who is able to spell (errr...you know san, you are not furry good yet and need the practice...practise your spelling!)

The How-To today is about HOW a cat can help the human to put the sub-Q fluids in order and count them. My two bruffers need sub-Q effury week - 3 times fur Toro and now twice for Megat and so san would have to put the bags in the right bins! Hmmmm....

When san brings the bags home - 10 sodium chloride 0.9 for Toro and 5 Hartmaan's Solution for Megat, the human cashiers would put them in several bags. I try t help san sort them out. I look them over furry carefully and then I give san the tally. Like so...

Here I am sitting next to san and telling her what are in the bags and what she should do with them. This takes some time as san also has IV tubes that she needs to count and I need to verify.
Last Saturday, my sidekick Totoro was not about. He does not like being near the bags as he is afraid that san would pick him up and give him the injeksion! So Big Bruffer Bujang decided he would help me. I was furry glad as this is a BIG job!
Then I asked Bujang if all was in order and if he counted the bags properly. Bujang said I was furry good in my counting and effurything was fine. So san was able to keep effurything quickly. But we were so tired after counting and counting. I told Bujang he could get some rest.

Phew! No more!
Because I did my job well, I can sleep without a care. I was careful enough already and need to keep my brains cool! I fink I deserved it.

On another note, we are furry gald to receive this award yesterday. san was furry tardy and so I gave her strict instructions to make sure this is done.

Run Free Mera

Mera left us to run free last Sunday 15 Jan at 12.20 am- quietly sitting with cat_aunty. We will miss him.

PS Cat_aunty said that it was sepsis and toxic shock.

Bujang and I were minding our own business when I suddenly felt a sudden whoosh close to my ear. I looked up and saw a crow from the corner of my eye! Then I followed his flight and saw him alighting on one of the branches of this tree.

I saw him twisting a small branch and letting it fall right next to us WOAH!!!
This branch fell right next to Bujang, who continued to be unconcerned. He just looked up a little and continued munching on grass. I looked up at the crow and saw why it ws trying to chase us off!

There were 2 nests on the top branches of the tree and 2 crows! I guess it was doing its best to keep them safe!
So I persuaded Bujang to walk and of course he preferred to lay on some crunching dry leaves in the drain!! Ms Akira should have warned us about this yesterday :)

Why is your cat so big?

Neighbour: Where you buy your cat? He very big..hahahaha (very loudly) Bujang: !!!!!
Neighbour: Very big, very big. (They stopped outside our house and talked about Bujang)
Bujang: !!!!! (and runs away to hide in the room, looking shocked and unsure about the sudden explosion of noise)

This is a frequent question I get, whether on our walks or at the vet :) Possibly Bujang is now such a big cat when compared to other local cats because I gave him quite a lot of vitamins and nuitrition when he was a few weeks old. Then I was too anxious and I gave him as much help as I could. None of my other cats are as big and muscular as Bujang.

I have no basis for comparison as I only see community cats, who are of course smaller due to poor diet and sporadic care, if any. But Dr K told me that Totoro is a 'big' cat, even with his fur all shorn. In term sof size however it would be Bujang (giant), Totoro in terms of girth but Tanaka if in term sof length :), then Ms Akira and of cos Megat :)

Working Wednesday

This evening I helped san to make sure her papers were not flying about. She had to grade many papers and so I sat on them fur her.
The I decided she needed to rest. I sat on most of the papers fur a whole hour. So san rested :) I fink I did furry well.

Tanaka Tuesday

We got our New Year present from san some days ago. It was a Woohoo! present. We got it the day after Toro went to hospital so san said it must be a reward fur all offur us. (We are thankful this present was sent to us and not sent back to fortypaws. san would have to write the post a furry ferocious letter then).

We were all furry excited! san opened it a little and let us sniff it!
I was not furry patient and tried to see what was inside!
Hmmm...what is this? Effurybuddy was curious...

A ham-mick! Finally we got ours!

My bruffer Bujang was the first one to get up on it. He was furry brave

The he decided to take a nap on it! I just waited fur a bit. I have to wait my time cos Bujang can be furry fierce!

Finally it was my turn. We really like our ham-mick! We sleep on it effuryday. san says she will keep the 2nd one safe and that we have to learn to take turns. Thank goodness my bruffer Toro does not like it furry much and Megat is afraid offur it. It seems my sisfur Akira just does not like the smell on it! Hahaha. More time fur me.

Oh the Toroble!

This Sunday Toro was his usual self - looking out the window and feeling the soft breeze that came with the rain. Last Tuesday, he was not so calm. He had a some trouble peeing. At about 1240 am so he walked in and out of his (clean) litter for about 2 hours. I noticed he had a lot of trouble trying to pee and called the hospital immediately. after talking some time, I was assured that it was not an emergency (since he was eating and could finally pee a few drops) but it was urgent that I bring him to the clinic.

The next day I called the clinic but was advised by Dr T that I bring him straight to the hospital in case he was indeed blocked and I would have to hospitalize him. I did this and Dr K said that because it was his 3rd time in, I would have to allow for an operation so they can widen his urethra!! We spoke at length about his condition, his kidney stones, his behaviour the night before and Dr K an x-ray is called for as his bladder did not seem swollen. Then he had an ultra sound to check for the trouble by Dr Sabine!

Finally after what seemed like a long time, we found that one of his kidney stones had migrated through his urethra and was now in his bladder! His whole left urethra was irritated and inflamed and this made him want to pee all the time and therefore he strained quite a bit, with no pee. His bladder was empty of pee as well. Dr Sabine said his uroliths were still there so I guess the acidifier was not working at all and he does have oxalate crystals! She was quite relieved that the stone did not block the opening of his bladder and so were we all.

He was given one week's worth of antibiotics and 2 weeks worth of anti-inflammatory pills. He was also given an injection to help him with his irritated urethra. Finally when we got home, he immediately went to the litter and I saw this.

I was never so pleased to see cat pee before !:)

he is now feeling ok and peeing quite well. Dr K also recommended dou miao for fibre so he would not be constipated. I was not to give him any more pro-kaolin as that makes for constipation. I give him pro-kaolin as he used to vomit frequently and Dr H said all the meds could have irritated his stomach lining!

ON ANOTHER MATTER ALTOGETHER!

We are very glad that our friend Hat is feeling better with cat_aunty, after his harrowing experience with a swollen paw. The vet said, after they had cleaned and xray the paw that it was because of a rubberband! They estimated that the rubber band had been tied around his paw for 2 days!

We suspect mischief and cat_aunty and uncle had warned the neighbours to watch out for this around the neighbourhood. It was lucky that Hat knew where to find help and that there were many people who had helped him. He is now recuperating to the disgust of Empress Spencer :)

Quiet Saturdays with my cat Ms Akira is always special...

This morning I thought I would see how the new diet is working. I bought her Royal Canin Sensitivity and she has been eating it for about 3 weeks now.

Its working rather well as her fur is growing on the previous bald spots. The pink sections are where her bald spots were before. She used to lick all her fur off it! Then she had tiny scabs where she had bitten through her skin.

These sections now have fur. They used to be quite bald.

I am quite pleased about this and I am sure Ms Akira is quite relieved. She likes the new kibble and would finish all of it by evening.

I am very encouraged at this new fur growth and also am relieved that I do not have to give her the anti-depression pills. I hope more fur grows soon. Maybe she not stressed out living in her room. It may only be she is allergic to the food I had given her before. *fingers crossed*

No, I was not the one who was mad today. It was san. She had to clean up her school bag and clear her work for tomorrow. san will be going back to work after a whole three weeks being home with us. We will miss her and I am sure she will miss lazing about. 2012 has started in our house.

This morning I looked out the window to see the first day of 2012. san said we are now in a totally new year but I don't see any difference. But I remembered I wanted to be kind to everyone and so this morning I started my resolution.

I was kind to Megat even though he bullies me when he can. I just sat behind him and watched over him. I fink I was furry good this morning.

San asked me what my resolution was. I thought I should ask my bruffer Bujang for advice.

But he was napping! That was no good to me so I told san...

I fink I need time to think about this. How about giving me 364 more days san?
(I do not want to have to make any cos I planned many shenanigans for 2012..hehe)

Really? So now we don't have it?!!

I bought for the amigos a new cat fountain made of made of stainless steel and then today I got mail from mythreecats that they had their package sent back to them. It seems our post had tried to deliver our package and sent us a notice on 30th November and since there was no reply from us, they had sent back the package!! We were flabbergasted as we did not get any notice at all!! We sent an enquiry to the post and we are now waiting their reply.

We only have plastic fountains here that I can find and the plastic smells after a few years! We were all very disappointed with our mail service.

Here I am helping san put up the Christmas decorations on our wall as I am Santa's helper. I held onto the felt snowflake while she put some sticky tape on it.

This was what our wall looked like and I inspected it from afar to tell san if the decorations were straight. (Also I wanted to see just what to do if I wanted to play wif them later when san was not looking)

san also put up our new lights outside so Ms Akira could have her own Christmas tree. san says the lights look like a tree so we did not have to stick on any more decorations. I was purty glad as I was tired by then. We had never put up Christmas decorations before but san was saying that she kept seeing words like 'santr,' ' truck', and 'conesw' when she was doing word verifications for comments so she decided to put some up this year :)

Anyway I like all celebrations cos we get new collars and san always has the fairy lights on outside. It cheers up the house and corridor as the days are always dark because of the rainy season.

Thursday is for Totoro

I'm glad today is MY day for blogging. I told san that since its Thursday, I should be the only one out here in the blog. It's about time.
san boughted us a new tunnel from IKEA. It is actually a tunnel for little kids. san told us that we are her little kids so we should have the tunnel since all our tunnels are torn. Its quite strong and rolls about nicely. I do not like racing through the tunnel unlike a certain orange cat, who you can see waiting at the corner!
I like sitting in it. It gives me a green glow. I feel protected and I know no one would disturb me here, although sometimes san shifts the tunnel without knowing I am in there and then she gets a fright. Hahaha....

I can also lie about in it by myself.

But of course nothing beats sitting by an open window. This is usually the bestest thing!

Working Wednesday

This afternoon, I worked hard to keep our neighbourhood free of mosquitoes...
I made sure I looked under the pots too...

and took a peek behind them...

I told Bujang that we should leave no pots unturned and he agreed.

I then had a good nap as I know we would not be bitten by the Aedes mosquitoes and get dengi. It seems quite a nuber of people have gotten it but I am always vigilant, unless I'm nappin :)

Actually he reminds me a little of a baby seal :). Toro likes sleeping here as the couch is softer and he knows no one else would compete with him for it...unless its Tanaka but Tanaka and Toro are friends :) so no problems there.

At the amigos house, all things are in order, as it should be. I am planning spring cleaning to greet 2012 and have told all of them. The only attentive one is Tanaka as usual. He is a regular Santa's helper :)

We are very sorry to hear that our good friend and one of the greatest singers in catdom, Admiral Hestorb had gone to the bridge last Wednesday. She was one of the most feisty kitties we knew and one of the kindest. We know that she would still be singing where she is now and we will open our ears and hearts to hear her song always.

Vet Visits II

Bujang was very angry at the vet. He growled several times at everyone after the vet took his temperature so we did not do the blood test nor did the vet manage to trim his nails. I did not think it was wise to antagonise him any further. He is healthy and his teeth are all okay. He is overweight! Oh dear! he is now 8.2kg!! I think THAT is massive for a cat, even though he is big-boned and well-muscled like Bujang.

Dr H took one look at Ms Akira and told me that she did not look as though she had any trouble. I told him that the problem was her abdomen and her legs! If you look at MS Akira from above, she looks glossy and her fur is soft but her abdomen tells another story!

Dr H gave her 0.25 injection of Depredil and told me to monitor her for about 2 weeks. If she over grooms less, this means she is allergic to the food and we would have to give her hypoallergenic kibble. He suspects that she is allergic to some thing in her food. He also gave us Clomicalm, an anti-depressant for her obsessive behaviour but we are KIVing that. Dr H said the anti-depressant would take about 3 weeks before we see anything. I have begun to allow Bujang to hang out with her at night since he is the only one she can tolerate and who does not harass her. I think it would be good for her to have another cat to hang out with, so whenever she hangs out, Bujang would be there too. the other boys are sequested in the bedroom, away from her so she can relax.

The only cal kitty at the vet was Tanaka. He was interested and did not flinch when the vet took his temperature :). He is 4.5 kg, which Dr L (who saw both the boys today) said was a very good weight - not underweight nor overweight, just the right weight :). He got his vaccination and had a little fever. He is now resting in bed. The only problem with him is that he has a lot of stool in his intestines! He really hates taking meds so I think it would be a problem giving him pumpkin.

All in all, everyone had a good result at the vet. In the case of Ms Akira, at least we are trying something. Maybe acupuncture is the way to go...hmmm

Vet Visits

Today Bujang and Tanaka would be going to the vet for their annual vet visits. We will be seeing Dr H, who has just come back from stint in feline medicine. We were told that this was his speciality. Tanaka would be getting his vaccination and Bujang would just get the usual, maybe a blood test also since he is already 7 years old but it depends on his mood of course.

I brought Ms Akira for her annual check up. She sang _all_ the way to the vet and even grumbled while we were waiting for the vet. Then she had to be examined from underneath her towel! Dr H took it in his stride and recommended some things for her over grooming. Megat and Totoro of course will not be going as they had just seen Dr L last month.

I hope all goes well.

Good news Saturday

No it has nuffing to do wif us although we are furry healthy, which is good news :) I am just sitting up here this morning thinking about offur kitties, like the kitty in the pikshur below. His name is Smokey and he is 11 years old. san and many catmoms have been trying to find him a home and finally yesterday he found a new furrever home.

Smokey is an 11 -year old Scottihs Fold indoor cat and needed a new home as his mom can no longer take care of him. Good Luck Smokey!

Now that he has a home, we are no longer worried although san is still a little worried as he is an old cat and would need special care. san was sad as she could not bring him home as there are 5 offur us already (but I am not sad as this is MY home and I need my space). But we will purray for Smokey as he now has 6 offur bruffers and sisfurs. Good Luck Smokey!

We are just lazing about as usual on Friday afternoon now that _all_ of us are home. Life is quiet, which is the way we like it. But this morning san was busy taking our pikshurs. We had had 4 days of no pikshurs and the sudden fury of it all exahusted us, as you can see from this pikshur!

Totoro: This morning I had to take _all_ my medicines! In the morning! It was a painful time but then san gave me a treat which made it all ok :) So I posed for this pikshur.
Huh? There was a treat? Why didn't I get any?
That is because you were not taking any medicine Bujang! I got a treat as I allowed san to clean me up. I do this every morning for the treat. Surely you didn't think I did it for the fun of it?

I don't like treats! san usually give treats when she wants us to do somefing funny - like take medicine, wipe our fur, clean our ears, brush us. Phooey! I dun like any offur that!

I get treats every night when its time fur bed :) I dun have to do anything - just sit on her lap all day :)

I came home from a short holiday in Pahang, West Malaysia to a very chilly reception from Toro. He refused to have anything to do with me and kept running off as soon as he thinks I am coming.

Then after about 45 minutes, he decided I had enough punishment and pawed me for attention and brushing :) The other boys took it all in their stride and came to say hello with Tanaka making me give him an extended session of under_the_chin scritches. Ms Akira was calm and steady and took a long sniff before decided that I was ok:)

Its raining again...and again...

Time for a nap...maybe a very long nap for today.

Its December and so we would have rain sometimes for the whole day. The amigos have decided to spend the day napping :). Today, its one of those days when the rain falls continuously and slowly - a whole day of rain. Poor Bujang will have to spend the day inside as the corridors are also wet with the rain.

Wednesday Walkies

Bujang stalked about this morning when he went for a morning walk. He didn't like morning walks much, probbaly because the smells and sounds were different from what he was used to.

But he doesn't ever try to catch them. He just likes running at them and stops just a few feet away just so he can watch them fly :) We try to go for morning walks as the rains come in the afternoons and evenings. Vet Verdict for Totoro

Totoro's vet visit was a mixture of good and not so good. The blood test was good apart from the 2.5 indiactor for creatinine. He is well-hydrated and his PCV is 35.5 5. The US was good and bad. His left kidney is stable but his right kidney has more stones although it is less dilated than before (4.6 compared to the previous 5.6). Dr S said that the dilation was the more major thing to look out for and as his kidney is less dilated now, that is a cause for celebration. The really good news is that all his other organs are fine and his bladder is clear of sand and his urethra is also clear. However, 2 of his kidney stones have increased from 5 mm to 6 mm! Dr S was very positive and she said he is ok and if nothing else happens (like blood in his urine) he should be back for a review in 6 months.
Dr Ly was pleased that he is stable and gave him an additional pill - a Urinary Acidifier to try to dissolve his crystals as we do not know for sure if his crystals are struvite or oxalate. He said it would not impact his kidneys in any way but it may allow us some conclusions. We have to come back in 2 months for an US to see if the crystals have dissolved. If not, then at least we know they're not struvite crystals and take it from there. I am willing to try this as the pill is very small and we could go forward from here.

Toro would be on his way to the vet tomorrow for his ultra sound and blood test at 10.00 am. We are seeing a new vet for his ultra sound, Dr Sabine and of course he would see Dr Ly for the blood test and review of his meds. He would have to fast at 10.00 pm - no food and also no water. I think he would protest very loudly and so would the rest of the boys!

We do not celebrate Thanksgiving here but today I had much to be thankful for as for the first time in many days, I went down to the park. san broughted me to a different park full of ixora and butterflies. It was very bright and hot but san decided that we should make a try for it before it rains again.
This is what the park looked like at about 11 am. No one was about as it was getting hot and the runners have gone into hiding.

san attached the clamp to a little tree. She was afraid someone might take our transport and she could not run after them soon enough. But nothing like that happened. Thank Goodness!

I walked about under the ixora shrubs. I did not walk very far as it was a strange park but it was quite and peaceful and I liked that very much.

This was grandma's plants. They were neat and tidy...

I decided to supervise the plants and sniffed at them to tell them I was furry serious about my supervising job. The plants just stood there!

So I decided to go downstairs. It was at first furry scary but I decided to do it anyway!

I was surprised to find all the plants very well-behaved...even downstairs...

Then I thought I should see what the secret was. I am sorry to say there was nuffing. the plants were not talking at all.

This afternoon san came home furry early from work and decided to take me out fur a walk. We had not gone walking fur a furry long time but when san called me, I went to her immediately and then I wore my harness. I know when this happens, we would go out and we did. I had a short time outside but I truly enjoyed supervising the plants!

Megat's Review

His blood test for kidneys- all OK!

The reason we did the blood test was Megat has lost some weight these few weeks. He is just 3.91 kg from 4 kg. DrLy said we should see what his blood test can tell us. Megat was very good and allowed Dr Ly to take his after 3 tries! As Dr Ly looking for a good-sized vein from his right thigh, he saw a small lump. My heart skipped many beats but after he saw the lump carefully Dr Ly said it could just be his lymph and it could mean nothing. Hi heart is strong, his lungs clear and his kidneys are ok. His PCV is 38% which is a cause for joy also. Dr Ly said I had nothing to worry about and I should come back in 2 months so he could see how the lump progresses and we will take it from there. So with a cheery shout of "You're well sweetheart and merry Christmas," we were off.

So I will just take Dr Ly's advice and keep cool about it and of course keep watch on his legs as well for lumps. I did not think of doing that all this time! However, I think maybe he lost some weight as he has been playing tag with Bujang almost every day this month. He is the only one who dares to play with Bujang when invited :)

I told san she should put up my GOTCHED pikshur eventhough it is past midnight and technically I am more than 4 years old! I had a whole can of tuna and crab all for myself! Yummy! I am sorry san forgotted to invite you but I had given her some big reminders (by walking all over her when she gotted into bed). san went to the vet to get catfood and saw some bonsai in the sun. A tree in a small pot- just right for us but san didn't buy any cos she said....

Too bad for my bruffer Bujang. san felt very bad about it but she said "Too hot to be outside even so." I fink san should do better!

Easy Peasy Sunday and a bowl of noodles

Yup. We have not seen the light of day for ages. The rains came and drowned all my hopes for evening walkies. Hrumphhh! Even today! san said that since we are in the Equator, November and December are the rainy seasons. I told san I was not interested in a geography lesson - only walkies!
The only good thing was that the sun shone for a short time in the morning and Tanaka had a chance to sit under it. Since he took the best seat, I did not get any of the sun then!

But we thought we should leave you with a Sleepy Sunday pikshur that san took this evening of me sleeping :) and san did have a nice time in the early afternoon as she had Thai glass noodles for lunch.

But I didn't get any walkies for the whole week and san was a little busy with work. But she said she would try to see if we could go out next week. I am furry...errr...very hopeful about that :)

Wednesday Woe!

No! I _do_not_want_the_pills! NO!

This morning Toro showed me his stamp of disapproval at my audacity at asking him to take his meds. NO! His whole body says! NO! After his meds, he was still not talking to me :)

He has to take his 1/4 alutab (phospate binder), his fortekor and his azodyl with some water. He usualy takes them all very easily. We just go through the usual routine and after he has some kibble, I am usually forgiven until the next morning:)

Tanaka How to #6 _How to ambush your bruffer

One offur fings I like doing is ambushing my bruffers_any one offur them will do. But nuffing is better than ambushing Bujang The BOSS.

First- You must have a good hiding place. It is important that your ambushee does not suspect anyfing! Look out for them as if you miss the chance, then all is lost. Once you see him coming, then make sure you hide yourself well...

See how I do it? Make sure he sees only a little bit of your tail so he would be curious. If you have a shorter tail, I suggest a paw.
Once he is curious, get into the cube (if you have one) and show your cute face. If possible, tease him a little wif your eyes and head posture. Say lalalalala wif your eyes! Act super cute! My bruffer Bujang does not like this at all.

Then pretend to ignore him. He likes this even worse!

Once your bruffer is fed up, try hiding yourself so he would have to beat you up to save 'face'! He would not to be embarrased by a liitle tyke like you.

One more fing. Make sure you can hide in the cube. Use the cube as protection fur your body. He would be quite puzzled by this and would not be able to figure it out.

See what I mean? Bujang was confused by the fact that he could not see all of me. He only saw my paw and he was not able to beat me up at all. Hahahaha. I had such a fun time wif him. I know he did not like me at that minute because he could not figure a way to get at me at all. Laalalalalalala. Job DONE!

Hrumph! One of these days I will get him!

I am quite puzzled as to why Tanaka is still so thin as all the boys are about 5 kgs. Megat is not 5 kg but Dr Ly said he is a little fat. Tanaka is very light to hold and I had seen the vet last year about his weight. The vet said that there is nothing wrong with him and I know at just about 4 kg, he is ok. I noticed however that he gets quite hungry at night and hardly ever eats in the pm, although he does eat a little in the morning. then it struck me that all the boys have been eating the kibble and as the youngest kitty, he is always the one who has to give in. So I decided to give him his own kibble bowl on top of the cage and I am glad to see that he eats from there several times a day. So maybe I have cracked it!

Our Deepavalli Blessing

Tanaka is our Deepavalli blessing and as today is Deepavalli, I thought its good to show him...
He began the day as usual...at a window so he could see everything that is happening...from above :)

This was what he looked like when he was little and undergoing leash training :) Today he walks on a leash very confidently...but only on concrete. He would refuse to walk on grass!

Tuesday Adventures

As I came back early, I thought I would take Bujang downstairs. It was rather dark but we went down anyway. Bujang made a bee-line for the pigeons although he prefers the see-and-stalk style (preferably behind a big tree).

This is another part of the park that sees hardly any sunlight. So the soil is bare and the plants are just waiting for something to happen. We will have to see what happens to them.

Bujang likes this part as he gets to go under the plants and lay on soil. I do not like it so much as he gets dirty. But he gets to walk about here anyway and then I will have a tough time cleaning him up upstairs.

This is Bujang on Monday afternoon. He was walking in his park and as usual we were the only 2 downstairs as it was a hot day. But the sun was blocked by the tall flats so we got some shade. I like this picture as it gives the impression that Bujang was walking out alone (he is never alone downstairs). It also shows how quiet it is here.
This looks like an Easy Peasy Sunday pikshur and it is. I just posted it for Monday cos Ms Akira face was too presious to miss. She makes a point of scrutinising the neighbourhood every time she is up here.

My Gotcha Day

My Gotcha Day was 18 October 2004. This makes me 7 years and some months.

This was my first pikshur when I looked right at san's camera. This was taken 4 days after I arrived at san's house.

On my 1st day, san broughted me home in a cardboard box and grandma took care of me when san went out to the pet shop to buy me a cage, a litter tray, some toys and cat's milk. That little cat was my favourite sleeping buddy.
Then san fed me every 2 hours because I was a hungry kitty. (san says I am still noisy now when I am hungry). But I think a cat needs to remind her human to be on her toes always. san says I was very helpful when I was little and would help her and grandma to hold the bottle. But they had to make me drink from a little saucer later when I tried to eat the nipple of my bottle. I was a good kitty and drank my milk and took my vitamins.

My favourite toy was san's glove. I dragged it with me everywhere.

I loved my toes a lot. I was always looking at them.

I also loved sleeping on this cushion in the living room. I was KING of the castle then. Now I have other kitties staying with me but I don't mind. They know who THE BOSS is!

THEN I GOT OLDER

The first time I went to the beach I did not like it and stayed close with my cousin! I was about 6 months but I was still a little afraid of the noise and the water.

san taught me to walk with a harness when I was 6 months old. This was my first one and then I tried to escape. So she boughted me my red walking jacket. I like walking outside with the grass on my feet and smell the ixora.

This was when I was 1 year old. san boughted me a jacket and made me wear it. I did not move at all and that teached her not to make me wear clothes anymore..hehe

Ms Akira and I used to be best friends but I hardly see her these days. But when I do see her, we hang out together like always :) But we do not groom each other anymore. san is a little sad by this but I told her that life goes on and we love each other still except now we love each other from a few feet away :)

This is my Easy peasy Sunday pikshur. This is what I look like this morning :)

san says I am not any different from before except I am much bigger and much more relaxed! I am 7++ years old but san says it is easier to think in whole numbers so she says maybe I could be 8 years old. I still ask san loudly to open the door in the morning and tell her when it is time to eat. I still love going for walks. I still love my grandma and sit with her in the afternoons and also accompany her to bed in the evening BUT I sleep with san in my own bed near the window. AND finally I still am THE BOSS!

I do not know why Toro suddenly decided that a snuggle would be the very thing to cheer me up on Sunday. It began the weekend that I was too sick to be at work. I think he decided that I needed encouragement to wake up and feed them...and I did. I was gald we went as I remembered all the stuff that Minah used to do when she saw Bujang and we both sat for abit, just enjoying the memories (for me) and the pigeons (for Bujang)

Tanaka How To #05_Secret Drawer

Its time for my further instructions of How To Get What YOU Want...

Drawers are tricky fings. You don't know what is inside them all unless you pay close attensiun to effurything that happens in the house. As a watch_cat, I am furry attentive and sees that san keeps my wand toy in it. Effury morning she opens this drawer and I sieze my chance.
Now for the instructions:

1. Make sure your human is occupied so she would not close the drawer. san also keeps her brush in this drawer and as soon as she brushes her hair, I make sure that she sees me inspecting the drawer carefully to see where the toy is. This is an impwtant step as your human must see that YOU are concerned about your toys. This makes them feel warm and fuzzy about you and immediately forget their own concerns.

Ah-hah. THAT is my peacock feather wand toy. I lurve it furry much. If I can get it out, san will have no choice but to play wif me.

2. Once you locate your toy, make sure your human notices you. Its no use if they ignore your effort. So make sure you SHOW them that you are a little kitty who needs a lot offur help in getting your toy out. Paw at it a little to show _desperation. Human beings are always willing to help a despearte kitty and if you're cute as well, you may get in some play time before your human goes to work. 3. Make sure you get a good grip of the edge of the drawer. This would allow you to perch steadily and NOT fall. Falling off only makes your human laugh and then they would forget that they need to play wif you.

4. Once you know your human had seen you and how desperately you want to play, RELAX. This is an impawtant step. You have to make your human feel a little sad that you seem to lose hope. THIS will make them want to help you get your toy and then play with you so you would be happier.

5. Look at the toy that you human helped you to take out offur the drawer. Look sad until they move it about and asks you to play. "Here Tanaka..c'com..kitty...."

WHEEEEEE! All done.

Windy Wednesday

Talk to the tail Tuesday

yayaya...no..I still do not want to face the flash box..no...

Eversince I have given Toro the sang hwang (that Megat has rejected), his ears have very little wax and he has very little eczema on his forehead, near his ears. If not, I would have to clean his ears thoroughly every 2 weeks. If I am a little late, he would get hard skin build-up which would be very itchy. His coat is also mush softer and grows faster too. Toro eats the sang hwang lingzhi like a trooper. I do not think the sang hwang will do his system any harm as it is also for immunity.

I do not plan to give him anymore of the sang hwang after he finishes this bottle unless somehting good happens to his kidneys from it. His kidney regimen has not changed at all from before apart from the sang hwang liquid extract.

PS: I went to see Minah at hospital just now and saw Dr Ly. He said the sang hwang would only benefit him and tests have shown that with sang hwang, it be 10x faster. *cross fingers*

Minah on Sunday

I brought Minah to the hospital today so she can get round the clock care and with 24-hr IV and meds. She was quiet the whole morning at home and ate some food, just a teaspoonful of Whiskas as she doesn't want to have anything else, especially not renal wetfood! She drank her water and went back for a nap. I thought if we could get her crea numbers to fall a little, we would have a chance.

She allowed me to clean her up with little fuss, only wanting to sit close. The cat ward was quiet. They put her on the drip and she went back to sleep.Of course when she was at the clinic, she had peed on the vet for daring to fix s catheter on her and giving her laudrabolin. I was very proud of her for fighting back :)

She has one week at the hospital and I we are taking it slowly. The amigos seemed to know that she was not in the kitchen and came out as usual. They were a lot more relaxed, even Tanaka who had refused to come out all of yesterday. They are now all asleep and I am grateful for each one who is safe tonight.

Bad News Friday

This is practically one of the last pictures I took of Minah when she was well and fat...

3 weeks ago, she seemed thinner and wanted to eat at strange places. Then last week, we had to look for her to give her dinner quite late at night and she would eat only a few mouthfuls. I was very worried when we saw this week that she would drink a little water and merely lick at her food. She had lost a lot fo weight in a space of one month and so we brought her to the vet. Indeed Minah has acute renal failure and Dr T said her indicators were extremely bad. Although her prognosis was very poor I decided that I should try to save this used to be very feisty kitty. She is as old as Bujang- 8 years old this year. Community cats do not have an easy life and she is well-beloved by everyone. The residents in this block knows her by name. So I am trying sub q fluids which would be the most likely factor that would help her, the azodyl, the alutab and the apo-k. I have to bring her to the vet every day so that they can administer the tablets and the sub q as I am not at all confident that I can do this for Minah as yet.

She is staying with us for 2 weeks (with grandma's blessing). She has been very quiet after the tablets and the sub q. I had given her some water but she didn't drink any. I hope its because of the sub q. She didn't want to eat any kibble either. The vet said her teeth are not in good condition but her gums are ok. Now of course with the renal issues she would not be able to get any work on her teeth at all.

I called M&M to see if they would board her but she needs a vaccination. That would take me all of 6 weeks and I do not know if Minah would survive so long but I would get the vet to vaccinate her anyway as I may not be able to keep her here very long.

The amigos are very curious but not unduly stressed out so that is good. I do not know what I would do this time round. I think I tried too hard with FatBoy, willing him to live when his system could not take it any longer. But the of course I do not know if I can do any better with Minah.

She is asleep and although I allowed her out to walk about in the kitchen, she made a choice of going back into the cage after a few minutes to rest. I had cleaned her up a bit with warm water and salt and so she is comfortable and quite clean.

Her indicators are horrendous and I can feel her spine quite clearly through her skin. But she has a little of her muscle mass. I think I have to do enough to help her. We will be doing a comprehensive blood test after 2 weeks of the regime and then I would have to make some decisions- and I really do not want to make any of it!

She is severely dehydrated. the vet said her high numbers could be because of her dehydration so her sodium chloride would do her some good, if so.

The BUN and creatinine are off the charts!

Thursday Lazeabout

I brought Bujang downstairs this morning as I was feeling much better. He has not been downstairs for 2 weeks as I was not feeling so well. He walked for a bit but then was quite uneasy because of the unfamiliar morning noises and construction work. So I brought him to his favourite ixora park but he didn't want to walk there. Instead he spent the time just relaxing in his carrier and so we went to the very quite playground which was cooler for me and we both sat quietly, me reading a book and Bujang, looking at the outside from inside his carrier :) After a bit I told him that if he was not out in one minute we would go home. He didn't get out and so we made our way home after 35 minutes of being downstairs. Mybe he was not familiar with morning walks as I always bring him downstairs in the evening. I thought the morning would be better for me as the haze was not so bad and the weather cooler. But maybe not for my cat Bujang :) But at least we both got out and got to spend some private time together :)

In the meantime, Totoro was sleeping pretty with the breeze blowing through the open window :)

I am giving him sang hwang which was actually for Megat. Since Megat did not like the taste of the gold sang hwang (which is much stronger) I thought Toro might benefit from it. He has eaten the sang hwang for about a month and his coat has much improved and his fur is softer to touch. His ears are also cleaner. If not I would have to clean his ears thorougly every 2 weeks. If not he would get eczema. Now with his cleaner ears, I would just do some daily cleaning. I do not know yet how the sand hwang will affect his kidney stones but it does contribute to overall immunity health. I would know in November if the sang hwang impacts his kidney stones.

It was a quite Thursday morning in our small corner of Singapore. I am much better and tomorrow would be able to go to work. Thanks to everyone who had visited us during our short 'time-out' :) We luv ya all...

Bujang: Today san was sick and she didn't go to work. So she decided to put fresh linen on the bed as silly Megat threw up on the linen. Usually san changes linen on Saturday but today she put on new linen that she just bought. It smelled new so I thought I should investigate and lo and behold! That crazy Megat decided to play games with me!

Megat: I thought it would entertain san.

Bujang: NO! You were just trying to be bad!

Megat: OK. I was trying to get the bed to myself but you must admit we make a good pair!

Bujang: Ok. I think so too. BUT no more, you crazy cat or I will beat you up !

Megat: ....

san: it was funny to catch them at it though :)

Thankful Tuesday

san says we have much to be thankful for. We are thankful that it rained this morning and it is still raining. This means we will not be hot and the haze would be lessened, at least for today. We are also thankful that we all have good health. I Tanaka am thankful that I live here wif san and grandma and my bruffers and do not have to go to work to buy food...hehehe. I am thankful that I can rest and look at the world from here, waaaay above effuryone.

san also wants me to thank our friends at the Poupounette . They gave us this marvellous award for our blogs :) It was furry generous of them. Btw I fink its time san has a blog just fur me...hmmm.... Adventures of the Rocket. That sounds like fun. san how about it?

Tanaka How-To #4 The Stare-Down

I thot its time to do another one of my How-Tos. Last Saturday I decided to try out The Stare on my bruffer Megat. I learnt it from my bruffer Bujang but I fink I do it better.
First. Stare lazily at the Object. You can try it on your human but I prefur to try it on my bruffer Megat. The object must not know that you have somefing naughty or else it will go away! This is krucial (that means impawtant!)

Second. Slowly but surely tilt your head so the Object KNOWS that it is being stared at. You have to do this furry deliberately as if not your Object would not take you seriously.

Third. Lower your head towards your Object. It doe snot matter if the Object tries to ignore you. You know it is working when the Object turns his head away!

This is a close-up of The Stare.

Notice your ears must be up, your eyes stare seadily at the Object and your whiskers must all be in the right place- facing forward.

Four. Then crouch down low as if to spring! Then SPRING on the object quickly. DO not get entangled and fight. Just give the Object a shock! Then they know who is BOSS.

This Tanaka is getting more and more rude san. He chases me about and tries to bully me. He is ONLY four years old! I am 15! He gives me no respect!

I decided that it would be bestest if I took care of san when she got really sick with fever and asthma. So I stayed wif san all weekend and saw that she rested well. I even told Megat he should not wake her up (he sometimes would walk over her to wake her up). I even had to chase him off the bed several times. I thought I would be much better than a toy :)

This morning san was better and she woke up at 5 am to feed us and give Toro his meds. she could not even give Toro his meds during the weekend so Cousin R had to come and help me take care of that! But now that san is better, we would have food and meds and even play. This is a good Monday I fink.

Saturday in the park

Finally after a whole year, I brought Bujang back to this park. he started walking really when he was in this park 5 or 6 years ago but I stopped bringing him year a couple of years ago as it became very noisy with young people and boys playing soccer. Once or twice we nearly got hit by a soccer ball and once by a cricket ball! It was far too dangerous for us.

But I know he like sit here as it is far more interesting with may paths to explore.

And many places to sit under...

Here he met his favourite ixora bush again and he spent some time smelling each and every clump of ixora flowers.

A kind of bird's eye view. It There was no one but us this afternoon. The Town Council had also built a tall enclosure surrounding the play area - some kind of ball court but I think they had locked it up. So no one can play at the court anymore which is a pity as there is hardly any public space in Singapore that people can use for recreation. I think if you want to use the space you may have to get a permit! Although I think its a pity, I am grateful at the same time cos a soccer ball can really hurt someone or someone's cat!

Another bush that he explored. I think he is figuring out just how many cats (or dogs) visit this space.

Bujang had a good time here. I first thought I should stop him but then he wa shaving such agood time I decided to let him just do it!

Cleanliness is next to Catliness

Cleanliness is very important to a cat, no matter what san.
Megat's laid back everyday stance :)

Last night Megat lost his temper. Just after midnight I woke up to the sound of deep meows which I recognised as Megat's voice. I contemplated ignoring him but I knew that he would not stop until I saw to him. When he saw me, he stopped meowing and pawed at the door of his cage, wanting to be let out.

I saw immediately why he was yelling. His litter pellets were all over his blankie and I smelled poo. Poor Megat. I know he does not like pooing in his own litter in the cage and would often race to the litter in the bathrom if he has to do big business. I think the smell of it bothers him (and rightly too). I cleaned and washed out his litter bin, put fresh litter in it and gave him a new blanket. After that, he was a much happier kitty and we both had some sleep.

Since Megat is a senior kitty, he needs the litter in the cage. Otherwise he would just go.

Cats are really fastidious about cleanliness and I think all of the amigos are this way. Bujang expects his throw-ups to be cleaned immediately, Toro expects very clean litter or he would pee in the shower stall, Tanaka would ensure all bits and pieces are buried and Ms Akira would not use the litter if there is poo from the boys! So therefore I was quite surprised that in one episode of "Clean House" on cable, the homeowner said that she would make sure she cleans her cat litter bin (pick up after them, not wash the bins) once a week!!

Tanaka How-To #3: How to Deal with Laundry

It is time for me to take over from san. She has not been furry good at blogging lately and says she has no pikshurs. So I told san I would help her out. Its time fur my How-To tips. This time about laundry.
san send out most offur our laundry to the man who helps her to wash them. She gives them paper - a lot offur it for him to keep our laundry safe and sound and of course smelling good. She usually send out our fings as she says all the mats and quilts are too difficult for her to wash by herself.

So I have to keep my ears out for the sound of the bell effury Sunday morning. Here I am doing my best to hear for the bell. But first I always hear for his footsteps.
Then I have to turn around to see if it was really the laundry man. Sometimes its the post that brings our medicine from far away. Once I hear the laundryman I always

check if its the rights bags. san puts our laundry in Ikea bags as they are distinct and the laundryman knows the bags belong to us.

Sometimes I send my helper Toro to see if the laundryman has arrived. He is my right-handcat and does his job well.

Once the laundryman takes away our dirty linen (hehe), he would drop off the clean ones. This menas the laundry would smell nice and clean. Both of us would do the sniff test. san would give the laundryman a lot of paper also at this point. You can see from the pikshurs that we have the same stuff that we sent out before. Now they are in plastic. I always make sure that this is the case as it is my duty. It would not be right if the laundryman sends us someone else's laundry. Then I would have to tell san and she would have to make our complaints to the person-in-charge at the laundramat.

But as the BOSS, I would have to make sure that the right bags are taken in exchange for the paper and then I make sure the lundryman goes away. We do not want him to come back and take away our clean ones again.

So then san puts away our newly cleaned laundry. THAT is when I know my job is done.

Thursday Vet Visit

Safe at last!

Today Bujang went to the vet for his booster shot. The poor kitty thought he was going for a walk but he was whisked away to the clinic. He protested very loudly (as he had every right to do) and so I advised him to yell at the vet instead. Vets can take almost anything I feel :)

We were lucky as there was no one there and Dr T saw us almost immediately. He took his shots very well and even allowed the vet to trim his nails but we had to stop when he started growling. At least the nails in his front paws are very short :)

He is now alseep as he had a little fever from the vaccination but he should be ok tomorrow. His next shot in in 2012. Phew!
